Community guidelines

In the spirit of Ram Dass’s teachings and the path of loving awareness, we gather together to nurture a safe, compassionate, and inclusive space for all beings. As we honor Ram Dass’s life of service and his boundless message of "loving everyone and telling the truth," we affirm our shared responsibility to uphold the highest standards of respect, kindness, and dignity within our community.

We are committed to creating and maintaining an environment that is free from harassment of any kind — including but not limited to harassment based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, ability, religion, or spiritual beliefs.

Harassment, discrimination, or harmful behavior — in any form — stands in direct contradiction to the culture of openness, loving presence, and mutual respect that we are here to cultivate. Together, we embrace these guiding intentions:

  • To see and honor the light in each person, recognizing our shared humanity and interconnectedness.

  • To engage with one another in ways that reflect compassion, empathy, and understanding.

  • To listen deeply and communicate truthfully, with respect for the lived experiences of others.

  • To support the well-being of all members of our community, standing together in our commitment to safety and mutual care.

Should any concerns arise, we encourage open-hearted communication and accountability, always seeking resolution with compassion and mindfulness. If further support is needed, our community stewards are here to listen and assist.

As Ram Dass reminded us, "We're all just walking each other home." Let us walk together in kindness, with hearts open, creating a space where every soul feels welcomed, seen, and cherished.

HARASSMENT POLICY

  1. Purpose

Hanuman Maui is committed to providing an environment for our members, directors, and persons served by Hanuman Maui that is comfortable, safe and free from harassment of any kind.  In order to preserve our community and culture of loving awareness, any type of harassment shall be considered a violation of this policy, will not be tolerated, and could result in legal ramifications.

  1. Prohibited Conduct

Harassment is any unwanted behavior - physical or verbal (implied or explicit), that makes another person feel uncomfortable, humiliated, or mentally distressed. Prohibited conduct includes but is not limited to the following: words, signs, slurs, stereotypes, denigration, jokes, pranks, intimidation, manipulation, false accusations, stalking, physical contact, or violence.

Sexual harassment may include unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal or physical contact of a sexual nature when such conduct creates an environment of uncomfortability and/or intimidation, or which prevents and/or interferes with an individual’s autonomy, or ability to effectively perform the duties of his or her position, or when such conduct is made a condition of employment or compensation, either implicitly or explicitly.

It is not the intent of the offender’s behavior that determines if harassment has occurred, but whether the behavior is unwelcome by the receiver. Our community values clear and truthful communication. If you are unsure if your behavior will be welcomed by the receiver, simply request consent and respect and honor that person’s answer.

  1. Responsibility / Applicability

Members, directors, and persons served by or serving at Hanuman Maui, and our entire community are/is responsible for helping to keep our environment comfortable, safe, and free of harassment.
